How much capacity does line-set length actually cost?

Enough to change the selection: 15 to 25 percent of capacity and EER can be lost to line-set effects. Selecting from a catalogue table that assumes a nominal line set will oversell the installed system.

Why can we not compare a SEER2 figure against a catalogue rating?

Because they are different test bases. Ratings under AHRI 210/240 and AHRI 340/360 apply to different equipment bands and conditions, so figures are only comparable within a rating basis. The software keeps the basis attached to the number.

Does it handle multi-circuit systems?

Yes, as a balance problem rather than a summation. Circuits interact, so adding nominal circuit capacities overstates the result. The tool models the balance instead.

Does it model heat-pump defrost?

Yes, across the winter envelope rather than as a fixed derate, because the defrost penalty depends on the hours actually spent in the conditions that trigger it.
